Located on the iconic and accessible Cairns Esplanade, the Spinal Life Healthy Living Centre is dedicated to supporting the health and wellbeing of people with spinal cord damage and other physical disabilities.
Everything about the Centre has been built to be fully accessible for wheelchair and mobility device users, from the accommodation to the Active Gym, Café and Community Rooms.
We’ve drawn upon 60 years of experience in supporting people with spinal cord damage and physical disability to inform the construction and delivery of our flagship Healthy Living Centre and we are proud to provide important services for residents and visitors of Far North Queensland.
The Healthy Living Centre features seven self-contained, fully accessible units, with one or two bedrooms and water views available. We offer options for guests looking for a North Queensland short-term, transitional or holiday accommodation and cater for guests who are self-funded or are funding their stay under their NDIS plan.
The Centre features two fully accessible meeting rooms available for hire for community activities and events. The rooms include a projector, screen and kitchenette and can be combined for larger events.
Boost your rehabilitation with a visit to our Active Hydro Pool, complete with accessible lift for easy entry and exit.
Hydrotherapy is a great way to improve your movement, balance and strength while also assisting with pain management.
Schedule a one-on-one session with our qualified Exercise Physiologist or Hydrotherapist.
The Active Hydro Pool is open Monday to Saturday by appointment.
Achieve your fitness or rehabilitation goals with the latest accessible equipment at the Healthy Living Centre Active Gym, open 7 days a week.
The Active Gym is fully equipped with the latest from HUR Health and Fitness, equipment that matches your body’s natural muscular movement, providing specialist air resistance-based strength training and a safer and more effective way to exercise.
We offer one-on-one sessions with our Exercise Physiologist or you can work with our team to develop your own specialised training or rehabilitation plan.
The Assistive Technology room at the Centre features innovative devices and technology available for guests to trial with guidance from one of our Occupational Therapists.
Guests can trial a series of useful tech including home automation equipment that can control lights fans, air conditioners or televisions around the home using a tablet or phone and equipment for people with limited hand or arm dexterity to control their computer using eye movements, head movements or easy-use switches.
We also have guided virtual reality experiences on offer.
For people with newly acquired injury or disability, the Centre features a mobility skills area where you can practice maneuvering around terrain such as ramps, curves, stairs and varying surface types such as grass, rubber and asphalt.
Our Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist can also assist you in gaining confidence and mobility skills to help you in your everyday life.
If you’re in the mood for a post-workout coffee or want to catch up with some friends over lunch, the Guyala Café, located inside the Healthy Living Centre has you covered.
